A man who shot and killed his wife in their Denver home has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Phillip Bivins was sentenced on Friday by District Court Judge Christopher Baumann, according to a district attorney’s office news release.

On July 18, 2019, Bivins shot and killed Tia Bivins in the 3200 block of Dexter Street.

About 22 hours after the shooting, Bivins walked into Denver Police District Station Two and told officers that he had been involved in a shooting. In March, after deliberating for five and a half hours, a Denver jury found Bivins guilty of second-degree murder.
