Fox News correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera said he supports President Donald Trump’s impeachment, and admitted that he may have “refused to see” earlier signs of Trump’s unfitness to govern.

Rivera, a long-time friend of Trump, said in a tweet Tuesday that losing the election had made the president “crazy,” culminating in him having “unleashed a mob to make war on their own government.”

The tweet was an attempt to sketch out Trump’s mindset when he encouraged protesters to march on the US Capitol on January 6, an event which soon became a riot that trashed the building and left five people dead.

House Democrats have since filed impeachment papers charging him with incitement to insurrection.

In his tweet, Rivera said the president had been “hounded” by the Democratic Party.

“A loyal friend, hounded without mercy by Democrats intent on destroying him from Day 1,” the tweet read. “Then he lost the election. It made him crazy or revealed a dysfunction I had refused to see. He then unleashed a mob to make war on their own government. 5 to their doom. @LizCheney is right.”

The reference to Cheney, a leading Republican in the House of Representatives, came after she said she would vote in favor of impeachment.
