Mitch Marner, Maple Leafs agree to new six-year contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs and restricted free agent forward Mitch Marner have agreed to a new six-year contract with an average annual value of $10.893 million.

This ends a months-long negotiation between the Maple Leafs and Marner, who was one of several unsigned remaining RFAs on the market.

Marner, 22, is coming off a career-best campaign that saw him amass 26 goals, 94 points and lead the Maple Leafs in scoring for the second-straight season. That 94-point effort made Marner the 11th-highest scorer in the league in 2018-19, and the fifth-highest scoring winger.

The restricted free agent’s future has been one of the biggest stories of the off-season, with Marner’s Maple Leafs up against the salary cap after inking Auston Matthews ($11.6 million per year) and John Tavares ($11 million per year) to their own hefty deals.
