Dame Twiggy! Iconic Model Has a ‘Brilliant Day’ as She Receives Damehood from Prince Charles

“The Face of 1966” is now a dame!

Lesley Lawson – or Twiggy, as the British model who defined ’60s fashion is better known – was made a Dame Commander for her services to fashion, the arts and charity. Looking chic in a cream-colored three-piece suit by Stella McCartney and a chic fascinator headband, Twiggy was given the honor at Buckingham Palace by Prince Charles during an investiture ceremony on Thursday.

“Brilliant day at #BuckinghamPalace getting Damed!” Twiggy, 69, captioned a photo of the big moment on Twitter. “Thanks for all my lovely messages.”

She also posed proudly with her new insignia.

Twiggy said that the heir to the throne told her the honor was a long time coming, according to ITV.

“I’ve met him before,” she said. “He’s really nice, and he said, ‘Congratulations, about time you got this. We’re all thrilled for you.”

“What happened to me happened in that mid-’60s revolution, which was all about youth – you had the Beatles, you had me, you had the (Rolling) Stones,” she previously told PEOPLE. “We were all working-class rebels, I suppose.”
