Anti-Pelosi Movement Gaining Big Steam Among Dems

President Donald Trump late Friday all but begged Democrats not to throw House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi under the bus if they oust the Republican majority in the November mid-term.

“Democrats, please do not distance yourselves from Nancy Pelosi. She is a wonderful person whose ideas & policies may be bad, but who should definitely be given a 4th chance. She is trying very hard & has every right to take down the Democrat Party if she has veered too far left!” Trump said, tongue firmly planted in cheek.

The president’s tweet may have been prompted by a new NBC survey that found at least 50 Democrats either challengers seeking House seats or incumbents favored for re-election who have said they will not support Pelosi for another term as Speaker of the House, should her party regain the majority. Pelosi — who has represented the same San Francisco area district for 30 years — previously served as speaker from January 2007 to January 2011. She was the first woman to be elected to the most visible job in the lower chamber of Congress.

But with the recent Democratic primary victory of 28-year-old Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez against incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), who is a member of Pelosi’s current minority leadership team, the NBC survey highlights the growing attention being paid to the youth movement in the party.

“Fifty Democrats running for the House say they won’t support the California lawmaker for speaker, according to an NBC News survey of candidates and their public statements,” NBC said.
