Metro Vancouver cops unveil Project Territory gang roundup details

B.C. law enforcement agencies believe Lower Mainland streets will be safer with the arrest of 14 gangsters linked to the Kang group and the Red Scorpions who have been involved in a violent conflict with rivals.

The gangsters face 93 charges including working on behalf of a criminal organization, drug trafficking, conspiracy and possession of firearms and even explosives.

VPD Supt. Mike Porteous noted a number of unindicted co-conspirators believed to be involved in the drug-trafficking organization, including jailed gangster Jamie Bacon and Cody Haevischer. Bacon is awaiting trial next month for counselling to commit murder. Haevischer was convicted of murder in the 2007 Surrey Six slayings and is serving a life sentence.

Porteous called the arrests “a major blow to Lower Mainland gangsters in one of the most successful gang crime investigations in B.C. history.”

In Project Territory and related investigations by a joint forces task force, police seized more than 120 firearms, 50 kilograms of drugs and more than $1.6 million worth of cash and jewelry.

Tacky broaches, pendants, rings and paintings featuring scorpions were on display at Friday’s news conference at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver.
