A man was taken to hospital after a fight broke out in a north-east town.
The High Street in Stonehaven was sealed off following the serious incident.
Police officers attended the scene yesterday, near the street’s junction with Arbuthnott Place.
A police spokesman said they were made aware of the incident at 7pm, and one male was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Members of the public were urged to stay away from the area of the High Street between Dunnottar Avenue and the harbour, which was cordoned off in order to allow inquiries to be carried out by officers.
One Stonehaven resident, who did not want to be named, said: “My husband and I had gone for a walk along the beachfront to the harbour and were shocked to see the High Street shut off with police tape and several police cars with their blue lights on. We asked a police officer what happened and were just told someone had collapsed.
“There were several cars trying to leave the harbour area who were caught behind the roadblock and had no way out.
“We heard police saying it might be a while before the road was open again
“It was quite a shock to see what looked like a major incident in the middle of Stonehaven in the early evening in a Wednesday night.
“We walked into town and saw more police cars patrolling the streets.”
A man was arrested more than an hour later following the incident.
Police urged any members of the public that may have witnessed the incident to phone 101 and quote incident 3601 of the 16th.
