Woman assaulted after leaving San Francisco bar, ordering ride


SONOMA — The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as it investigates a report that a 24-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted after getting into a vehicle that may or may not have been from the rideshare service she contacted to take her home.

The victim, who was found near a Safeway in Sonoma shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, told deputies she had had been drinking at Bruno’s Bar in the Mission District of San Francisco. As closing time neared, she arranged to be picked up and driven home.

A vehicle arrived and she got into the backseat, where a man was already sitting, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was driven to Sonoma, where she was allegedly beaten and choked by the passenger, then sexually assaulted by both the passenger and driver. She was able to get away but suffered visible injuries to her face and neck.

A description of the vehicle was not available Monday, and it was not clear if was actually the rideshare service that picked the victim up, according to the sheriff’s office.

Likewise, little was released about the suspects, but the victim said they spoke a language she did not understand.

The victim was missing her black boots, cellphone and identification when she was found near the grocery store. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who finds the items or has additional information about the alleged crimes to contact detectives at 707-565-3941.
