Make local mass transit
a private-public mix
I’m betting Elon Musk gets to Mars before BART gets to Diridon Station in San Jose.
Perhaps it is time to give for-profit companies a shot at local mass transit again? Local public mass transit has only been a recent phenomenon. Those of us around in the 1960s can remember that bus lines were run by private companies. In the 1930s they used private trolley lines.

Most popular transportation combines public and private. We drive our private cars on public streets. We use the private airlines from public airports. Finding the right mix would be a challenge, but some privatization of local mass transit could be the solution; it is not just a boring idea.
