Six more North-east athletes will go for gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April – including double Glasgow Games gold medallist Neil Fachie.
Para-cyclist Fachie, 33, will be joined by Matt Rotherham and will once again go in the men’s tandem events – the kilo and the sprint.
The Aberdonian, who suffers from congenital eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, has won 13 mostly-gold UCI Para-cycling Track World championships medals and a gold and silver medal at the London and Rio Olympics respectively.
Fachie will be joined in Team Scotland down under by fellow North-east rider Neah Evans, who won team pursuit gold with Great Britain at the UCI Track World Cup in Manchester in November.
Veterinary Surgeon Evans, 27, is from Turriff, but lives in Cuminestown.
In gymnastics, Alford’s Isabella Tolometti is selected.
Tolometti is the reigning Scottish uneven bars champion.
Claire Brownie, also from the Granite City, has been named captain of the women’s netball squad for the Games in Australia, having previously been part of the team at Glasgow 2014.
Brownie said: “I am honoured and very excited to be selected for the Commonwealth Games.
“ It is an amazing experience to be part of Team Scotland, I absolutely loved it in 2014 and cannot wait to join up with the wider Team Scotland family, get out to the Gold Coast and put all of our hard work into practice.
“We have an amazing squad full of youth and experience, we are delighted with our new Team Scotland playing kit which nods to both our Scottish Thistles presence mixed in with the Team Scotland design, and we are really excited for the opportunity to represent our country in front of the world.”
