Q: Please, please, please tell me there are plans to address the horrible conditions on Interstate 580 from the Bay Bridge through Oakland. No one ever seems to mention this. An extra lane would be so nice. Anything in the works or are we 580 commuters simply the forgotten ones?

A: Forgotten no more. The Alameda County Transportation Authority is looking at possible changes from the Bay Bridge toll plaza all the way down to Highway 238. This could mean adding a bus lane, carpool lane or express lane on all or a portion of this part of 580 during commute hours. A proposed plan could be unveiled in the fall.
Q: On Saturday, Feb. 3, a photo on the front page of the local news section showed a large dog leaning over the front windshield of a convertible as a woman was driving home. It did not look like this dog was restrained in any way.
That someone would actually let their animal ride or stand in the front passenger seat bothered me enough to write to you. What would happen to the dog if the driver had to stop suddenly? Where would this dog be then?
Our dog rode in the back seat with a harness attached to the seat belt. It gave her a little room, but if we had to stop suddenly she wasn’t going anywhere.
Also, to print this picture as large as it was on the first page of the second section, it must have been a very slow news day. Shame on someone.
