The body of Andrew Ortiz was discovered around 7 a.m. in the northeast portion of the South White Road school, just inside a gate where students enter the grounds through the athletic fields, according to San Jose police.

Police said they didn’t receive any 911 calls reporting gunfire prior to the body being found. East Side Union High School District Superintendent Chris Funk said Ortiz had no affiliations with Mt. Pleasant.

Neither a motive nor any suspects have been identified.

The shooting marked the city’s 31st homicide of the year. At the same point in 2016, which saw a 25-year high in homicides, San Jose had recorded 45.

Anyone with information about the case can contact SJPD homicide Detective Sgt. Raul Martinez or Detective Brian Meeker at 408-277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP or svcrimestoppers.org.
