The NHL Department of Player Safety had a hearing with Tkachuk on Thursday and the suspension was handed down shortly after.
Tkachuk jabbed Martin while standing on the bench during a scrum in the first period. Martin had checked Flames forward Troy Brouwer into the boards just moments earlier.
Although there was no penalty on the play, Tkachuk’s spear caught the attention of Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock, who said post-game that it was “junior hockey stuff.”
The 19-year-old Tkachuk received a one-game suspension two weeks ago for unsportsmanlike conduct from an incident against the Detroit Red Wings on Nov. 15.
