Saratoga High’s Amit Nag qualified for the CIF State Championships with a fourth-place finish in the Central Coast Section Division III boys championship race on Nov. 11 at Toro Park in Salinas.
Nag crossed the final line of the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 23 seconds. He led Saratoga to a sixth-place team finish. Teammate Anirudh Rao was the Falcons’ No. 2 runner with a 29th-place finish in 17:17.3.
In the Division III girls race, Saratoga finished ninth as a team. Its top individual was Julia Hoffman (21st, 20:39.0).
The CIF state championships are Nov. 25 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Saratoga High’s girls varsity volleyball team advanced to the CCS Division III semifinals on Nov. 8 before falling to Soquel 26-24, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.
Katie Hulme ended an excellent season with 21 kills, and she also had four aces and 12 digs. The junior finished with a team-high 333 kills this season.
Riley Carter slammed 15 kills against Soquel and 292 this season. She also had 10 digs against Soquel.
Belle Strawn had five total blocks against Soquel and a team-high 66 this season. Hannah Fan had a team-high 273 digs this season, including 21 against Soquel.
West Valley’s men’s team won the California Community College Athletic Association NorCal Championships for the fifth time since 2010. West Valley (30-2) dominated Modesto 19-2 in the semifinal and beat Sierra 18-6 in the championship match. Sinai Gonzalez Lara scored five times against Sierra, with Enrico De Munno and Ivan Stefanovic adding two goals each. West Valley advances to the CCCAA State Championships Nov. 17-18 at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
The women’s team at West Valley also finished its league season undefeated and won the Coast Conference. It outscored its opponents 172-40 in 10 games. Sabrina Esteves had 87 goals, followed by Allie Ruzsa with 66 goals. …read more
