Do you recognize these suspected North Vancouver bike thieves?

North Vancouver RCMP are searching for a pair of thieves who used a cutting grinder to swipe bikes from a Lower Lonsdale apartment complex.

The theft was reported Oct. 1.

A portable grinder was used to make short work of the bike locks. Surveillance cameras captured the two thieves stealing three bikes from a storage locker. Police released a still image in hopes the public can help identify the two “persons of interest.”

One of the stolen bikes was described as being a brown and gold Intense ACV mountain bike with the serial number VN16F00971. It was worth $3,700.

Cutting the lock off of a bike is a quick way to steal a bike. Getting caught doing it on a security camera will hopefully help police identify and arrest the thief.

RCMP say the thieves accessed the storage locker via the underground parking.

“Police are reminding everyone who utilizes underground parking and has property in storage lockers to be extra cautious when departing and arriving via the main door. Make sure the door is closed behind you before you drive away, in order to prevent thieves from sneaking in,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong.

“Even the most expensive bike lock offers little resistance to a cutting grinder.”

Anyone with information is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311, referencing file 2017-26467, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 .
