Around Town Briefs: Dixieland, pumpkin train and volunteers needed

Dixieland and Big Band

LGS Recreation is sponsoring a concert on Friday, Oct. 13, 3:30-5 p.m., featuring the Rhythmaires Dixieland Band. The show is at the Los Gatos Adult Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. A $5 donation to support senior services is recommended at the door; light refreshment will be served.

The LGS Big Band also performs at the adult recreation center on Nov. 8, 7:30-9 p.m., with a recommended donation of $5 at the door. The 17-member band performs all styles of jazz, with an emphasis on swing and dance music.

Pumpkin train

The Halloween-themed Billy Jones “Wildcat” Railroad Pumpkin Train leaves the Oak Meadow Park station between 5:30 and 8:20 p.m. Oct. 13-15 and Oct. 20-22.

Special event tickets are $6, cash or check only, and include one train ride and one carousel ride. A $13 ticket includes both rides and a pumpkin to take home.

Special sticky Halloween treats will be sold at the snack shack, open until 8 p.m. while the pumpkin train is running. Oak Meadow Park is at 233 Blossom Hill Road. Visit for details.

Volunteers wanted

Adult residents who are interested in serving the town in a volunteer capacity are urged to apply to serve on a town board, commission or committee.

There are openings on the arts and culture, bicycle and pedestrian advisory, community and senior services, parks, planning, and transportation and parking commissions. The building board of appeals, General Plan Committee, and library and personnel boards also have openings.
