The former plantation town of Paia is a surfing haven these days, a charming bohemian spot with a single stoplight and a main drag edged with bikini shops, arty boutiques and tempting little locavore eateries. It’s a great home base for that trek up the Road to Hana, and a laid-back destination all on its own.
