“Truth and Lies: The Murder of Laci Peterson (9 p.m., ABC): ABC News presents a two-hour documentary about the famous murder case before a ruling on the appeal that could get convicted killer Scott Peterson, who was Laci’s husband, a new trial. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2002, Laci mysteriously vanished from their home in Modesto. She was 27 years old and almost eight months pregnant with a son who they planned to name Conner. In a shocking twist that stunned a community and a riveted nation, Scott was arrested less than four months later and eventually sentenced to death. Included: Never-before-seen excerpts from Scott’s pre-arrest interview, new interviews with Sharon Rocha, Laci’s mother, detectives worked the case and journalists who covered it.
“Better Things” (10 p.m., FX): One of last year’s best new comedies returns for its second season. Of course, poor, stressed-out Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon) is still struggling to raise her three daughters while keeping her acting career afloat. Tonight, Sam has some people over, and let’s just it doesn’t go great. Adlon directed the episode and co-wrote it with Louis C.K.10 p.m., FX.
“Zoo” (10 p.m., CBS): After the team’s plane suffers a catastrophic accident in the hybrid zone, Dariela and Tessa (Hilary Jardine) set out on a rescue mission to save them.
