Sparked by a bolt of lightning Monday night, the blaze has consumed 50 to 60 acres of redwood forest in “extremely rugged terrain” near Bear Gulch Road and Skyline Boulevard, on the eastern edge of the El Corte Madera Creek Preserve, Cal Fire reported.

The heavy tree canopy and thick ground cover is continuing to smolder, but favorable weather conditions over the past 24 hours have aided suppression efforts, according to Cal Fire. As of 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, the blaze was about 30 percent contained.

No structures are threatened and no evacuation orders are in place. But authorities have closed roadways in the area as a precaution, including Kings Mountain Road from Patrol Road to Skyline Boulevard. Huddart and Wunderlich couty parks also have been closed.
