One dead in fatal crash on Highway 4 in Martinez

MARTINEZ — A person died early Sunday in a one-car crash on Highway 4, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 4:10 a.m. in the westbound direction just east of the Alhambra Avenue exit, the agency said. Details of what may have caused the crash were not available immediately.

Initial reports confirmed by the CHP indicated a light-colored sedan crashed through a guard rail and into a tree.

The gender and identity of the person were not released immediately. The CHP did not have information immediately about whether anyone else was in the car.
