The 51-year-old injured man is expected to survive but suffered several injuries after being shot in the back and arm more than once, Pleasanton police Sgt. Steven Ayers said. The assailants also hit him with a hockey stick, Ayers said.
The attack happened as the man was sleeping under an overpass at Stoneridge Drive and the Arroyo Mocho Trail. Officers were called around 11:20 p.m., after the injured man tracked down a passerby on Stoneridge Drive after escaping the attack. Officers met the victim at the entrance of the Springhouse Apartments at 5505 Springhouse Dr.
Police searched the area but were unable to find any suspects. They say three people were involved in the attack.
The primary aggressor, Ayers said, was a white man between 18 and 25 years old and between 5 foot 7 inches and 5 foot 8 inches tall. He weighed about 200 pounds and had brown eyes, brown hair and about three or four days worth of beard stubble, Ayers said.
The other two suspects also were males between 18 and 25 years old, but police did not have any further detailed descriptions of them.
