Sunday night gunfire in Port Coquitlam ends with apparent suicide

An armed police response to reports of gunfire in Port Coquitlam on Sunday night ended with an apparent suicide.

Coquitlam RCMP and Integrated Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team were called to a home on 2103 Audrey Drive just after 7 p.m. after receiving a report of a distraught man with a gun was firing shots in the air outside his home.

The man allegedly fired more shots when the Mounties arrived.

Emergency response team members later found the man dead behind a vehicle from what was believed to be a self-inflicted injury, according to an RCMP release.

There were no other injuries

According to an RCMP release, the Independent Investigations Office, the provincial police watchdog, has been called in to “determine if there is a connection to the actions of police and the injuries sustained by the male.”
